Original USA release in fine condition. The Spinners formed originally as The Domingoes in 1954. They made their debut as The Spinners at the Apollo Theatre in 1964 and I’ll Always Love You reached No’ 35 on the Billboard chart and No’8 on the R&B chart. The record failed to chart in the UK but has been huge on the mod / rare soul scene for over 50 years.

1956, Pensylvania the original group, The Latineers was formed and they played local clubs for a few years. In 1960 they acquired a new lead singer and changed their name to The Tymes. Always popular in the UK, they had a string of hits with Ms Grace and You Little Trustmaker being perhaps the most well known.

Born Betty Jo Hoskins January 29th 1946 in Michigan USA, she is still going strong. Several performances on British TV with Jools Holland, Let Me Down Easy is a classic and you can play the clip at the bottom of the page. You’ll Wake Up Wiser was released in 1972 and this is a nice copy offered in it’s company sleeve.

Originally, the Symphonettes, the group consisted of sisters Candy and Suzanne Nelson and their friend Jeanette Johnson. The 81 written by Kenny Gamble and Jerry Ross was their best seller. A follow up record Soldier Baby (Of Mine) by Phil Spector didn’t do well due to the politics of the time.
The group moved to Sceptre Records in 1965 with the writing team of Joshie Jo Armstead, Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson. They never really achieved the chart success that perhaps records like Mr. Creator and Out In The Streets Again might have deserved.

Released in 1967 the album includes the classic Save My Love For A Rainy Day. Written by Rodger Penzabene, and music by Norman Whitfield. Rodger Penzabene is one of the lesser known writers at Motown. A man troubled by love, he was shy and humble. He took his own life aged just 22 after finding out his wife was cheating on him. He died from a single gun shot wound on New Years Eve 1967.
