The the Emeralds were originally a four brother band from Arkansas – Ivory, Abrim, Cleophus and Raymond Tilmon. When Cleophus and Raymond left the band, Ivory and Abrim set off for Detroit where they teamed up with James Mitchell, changing their name to The Detroit Emeralds.
Abrim wrote all their hit songs and the band toured worldwide, being very popular in the UK. Feel the Need In Me and You Want It, You Got It were both huge hits the UK with Feel The Need In Me reaching No’4 in the UK charts in 1972.
