Benjamin Earl King was born in North Carolina on September 28th, 1938. A prolific song writer and recording artist, he was a lead singer for the group The Drifters. He sang lead vocals on several of their hit records, including – There Goes My Baby, This Magic Moment and Save The Last Dance For Me. Probably best known for writing and singing Stand By Me which was a top ten hit in the USA and UK. King died April 30th 2015 aged 76.
